Light & Wonder (L&W) has expanded its portfolio, acquiring a 20% equity stake in London-based slot studio Bang Bang Games.

It comes as L&W, a cross-platform gaming company headquartered in the United States, seeks to continue its aggressive global expansion.

“We’re incredibly pleased to welcome Bang Bang as a partner,” Stuart Banks, Managing Director of Global Partnerships, said in a release. “They’re a talented team with a proven track record and an exciting and engaging vision.”

“This investment is a great example of how we support studios through the Light & Wonder Spark program — helping them grow, scale, and succeed on a global stage.”

As part of the deal, the terms of which have not been disclosed, Bang Bang will seek to solidify its presence in the U.S.

“We’re incredibly proud to take this next step in our journey with Light & Wonder,” Bang Bang CEO Frank McPolin commented. “Being part of the Light & Wonder Spark program has already opened up fantastic opportunities for us, and this investment is a strong endorsement of the work we’re doing.”

“With Light & Wonder’s support, we’re in a great position to build on that momentum, grow our reach, and deliver even more bold, creative content to players globally.”

Month of Dealmaking for Light & Wonder

This continues a busy April for the company, formerly Scientific Games Corporation, which recently agreed to a partnership with Incentive Games. The agreement, which Incentive Games CEO Josh Gordon called a “landmark moment in (his company’s) history, allows Light & Wonder to distribute game titles to the U.S., Canada, Europe, and South Africa.

It also makes Incentive Games’ free-to-play content accessible to a broader audience through L&W’s content marketplace.

Last month, Light & Wonder reached an $850 million deal to acquire charitable gambling business Grover Gaming. Founded in 2013, Grover Gaming operates across five states (Kentucky, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, and Virginia). On its website, the company touts itself as “one of the country’s premier providers of electronic pull tabs, video lottery terminals, and historical horse racing with over 10,000 machines in over a thousand locations nationwide.”

Light & Wonder CEO Matt Wilson said the acquisition: “complements our position as the leading cross-platform global games company by adding another compelling regulated adjacency to our profile.”

While the industry gears towards a week in New Jersey for SBC Summit North America next week, slot releases continue to land in the CasinoBeats inbox. This week’s slot round-up features a clucking-mad slot from Wizard Games, a variety of bet choices from Play’n GO and Bang Bang Games’ mutant mayhem.

Chicken Burst – Wizard Games

Take a trip to the farmyard as Wizard Games’ latest slot presents a 5×3 reel title with 40-paylines and a maximum win of up to x10,000 the player’s bet. The slot has medium volatility with an RTP range of 88.06-96.1 per cent.

Bonus gold coins can appear, displaying monetary values from x0.2 to x2.5 the player’s stake. Gold coins can also appear displaying jackpot values of mini (x20), minor (x100) or major (x500).

Special blue, red and green chicken coins are also available, providing a random chance of activating the hold-and-win game mode when one or more appear on the same turn.

Wild coin purses can also drop into play, substituting for all symbols other than gold and chicken coins. These wilds can only appear on reels two, three and four.

When one or more chicken coins drop into play, they can randomly activate the hold-and-win game mode.

As the bonus game mode begins, five random gold coins will be added to an empty reel set while the triggering chicken coin performs its respective feature.

Blue coins will reveal a monetary prize from x0.2 to x2.5 the player’s bet or one of the three jackpot prizes, while green chickens collect the values of all other coins on the reel set and red chickens multiply all other coins by x2 before revealing their own coin value.

Players are then given three spins to land as many coins on the board as possible, with each coin that appears resetting the number of spins to three.

If players manage to fill the reel set with 15 coins, they will win the game’s grand jackpot prize worth x5,000 their stake.

Fulong 88 – Play’n GO

Several bet selections are available in Play’n GO’s latest Far East release, a 5×3 reel slot with 243 ways to win and a maximum win of up to x5,000 the player’s wager.

George Olekszy, Head of Game Retention at Play’n GO, said: “Fulong 88 is yet another title we’re incredibly proud of, for a number of reasons. The designs and overall aesthetics of the game combined with some fantastic features are sure to engage fans, especially those that have loved our other Asian-themed releases. We can’t wait for folks to see more.”

Five animal symbols depict the high value symbols, with foxes, frogs, tortoises, tigers and phoenixes available. At different bet levels, these symbols will offer different prizes, with wins worth x1 to x125 the player’s bet on offer.

While the fox symbol only appears in gold, the four remaining high value symbols can be selected to turn gold at different bet levels. The higher the bet level, the more enhanced the game becomes.

Choosing to turn the frog gold will increase the player’s stake by x2.5, while the tortoise, tiger and phoenix levels will increase the player’s bet by x4.75, x8.5 and x11.

At these different levels, the high value symbols will award higher payouts for winning combinations.

Gong scatters are available, triggering 10 free spins when three or more appear on the same spin.

Gold coin bonus symbols can appear, with each coin collected by a blue sphere that sits above the reel set to provide a random chance of triggering the Fulong’s Fortune game mode.

After being collected, the coin will be replaced by a ying-yang wild symbol, which substitutes for all symbols other than gong scatters, while occasionally splitting into two to increase the number of ways to win to 576.

In the Fulong’s Fortune game mode, players are presented with a number of gold coins in a pick-me style bonus game where jackpot prizes can be won.

The jackpot prizes available in this feature depend on the bet level that the player has selected. At the base level, with only the fox appearing as golden, no jackpot prizes are available and the Fulong’s Fortune game mode is unable to be accessed.

If the golden frog level is active, the mini jackpot is able to be won in the feature, offering x250 the player’s bet. For the tortoise, tiger and phoenix levels, minor (x468.75), major (x9,375) and grand (x25,000) jackpots become available.

To win one of these jackpots, players must match three jackpot diamonds of the same colour in the pick-me bonus game.

In the free spins feature, low value symbols are removed from play and all wilds are guaranteed to split into two to increase the win potential.

Mutant Trawlers – Bang Bang Games

Bang Bang Games showcases a nuclear spillage in its new slot release, presenting a 5×3 reel slot with 243 ways to win and a maximum win of up to x3,069 the player’s bet. While using an RTP of 96 per cent, the slot has medium-high volatility.

Mushroom cloud scatters can land on the reels, triggering 12, 15 or 20 free spins when three, four or five land on the same spin, respectively.

Three fish symbols are also available, with small, medium and large fish symbols displaying monetary values that can range from x0.5 to x40 the player’s stake, depending on their size.

On random base game spins, fishing boats can appear above any reel. These boats will collect the displayed prize values of any fish symbols that have landed in its reel.

After collecting these prize values, the boat will transform into a trawler to trigger the trawler respins feature. This causes a free respin to occur while the trawler stays above the reel set but gains a x2 multiplier, giving players another chance to collect fish symbols.

Each fish symbol that is collected will be enhanced by the trawler’s multiplier, which itself will increase by a value of one after each collection

New boats can appear during this respin feature, collecting any fish values that are in its own reel. The feature draws to a close when a respin occurs and no fish symbols land to be collected.

The trawlers will become active in the free spins feature to enhance the game mode, with their multipliers not resetting in between spins but staying persistent for the duration of the free spins.

Lastly, wild nuclear warning symbols can appear on reels two, three, four and five, substituting for all symbols other than prize fish and mushroom cloud scatters.

Fugly Pets – Stakelogic

The unwanted animals of a derelict pet store take centre stage in Stakelogic’s latest slot, showcasing a 5×5 reel board that uses 3,125 ways to win and a maximum win of up to x5,000 the player’s wager. This slot is highly volatile with an RTP of 96 per cent.

Daniela Fricchione, Head of Account Management at Stakelogic, stated: “One thing we love to do at Stakelogic is to play with player expectations. When you think of a pet-themed slot, you imagine something cute and cuddly. Well, we’ve taken that rulebook and fed it to the dogs, putting a fresh spin on the genre with Fugly Pets.

“It’s not just the theme that is unconventional, either. The game is jam-packed with special features, with the roadkill bonus and super symbols really helping the slot stand out from the pack.”

Cascading wins occur throughout this game, causing winning symbols to disappear after providing their payouts, making way for new symbols to drop in from the top of the reels.

Super symbols can appear throughout the game, with 2×2, 3×3 and 4×4-sized symbols randomly dropping into play to increase the win potential. Each super symbol will remove symbols below it to land on the very bottom row.

Beside the reel sits a symbol multiplier reel. Each time a high value pet symbol contributes to a winning cascade, its multiplier value will increase to x2, causing any other winning cascades on the same spin that involve said symbol to become enhanced.

This can then be repeated, with multipliers of x4, x8, x16, x32 and x64 also available. These high value symbol multipliers will reset in between spins.

During the free spins game mode, these multiplier values will not reset in between spins, increasing the win potential significantly.

In another Christmas-themed victory, Bang Bang Games & Yggdrasil’s latest slot release placed a festive spin on a traditional Irish theme, using frozen four-leaf clovers and ice-cold beers, to claim SlotBeats’ Slot of the Week prize with Rainbow Power Potz UltraNudge.

Putting a Christmas spin on a traditional Irish theme, this slot uses a 5×4 reel set with 40-paylines to offer players a maximum win of up to x7,113. Rainbow Power Potz UltraNudge has medium-high volatility with an RTP of 96.1 per cent.

Stuart McCarthy, Head of Product & Programs at Yggdrasil, stated: “Rainbow Power Potz UltraNudge brings an exciting mechanic to players and combined with the fantastic Prize Potz, it provides an engaging and exciting slot experience.

“We strive to add innovative, forward-thinking content to the YG Masters offering, and our partnership with Bang Bang Games has yet again allowed us to achieve this aim.”

Above each reel there is a prize potz reel that nudges each prize one-way to the left on every spin. These prizes are collected by cashpot symbols and include multiplied bet amounts and access to the free spins feature.

When wilds contribute to a winning payout, the UltraNudge feature will be activated and all symbols will nudge down by one row with new symbols dropping in. This will continue until no more wins can be formed.

Frank McPolin, Managing Director at Bang Bang Games, added: “Our latest launch allows us to combine a distinctly Irish theme with the festive season, as well as bringing some fantastic ideas to players. We’re extremely pleased with Rainbow Power Potz UltraNudge, and eagerly anticipate our next collaboration.”

With the free spins feature, 10 spins are initially awarded to the player as a special ‘win all’ multiplied bet amount prize becomes available on the prize potz reel.

When triggering the free spins, players can gamble their 10 spins in order to win more by aiming to land a spinning wheel marker in the green section of the wheel. Failing with this gamble will cause the player to lose all free spins and return to the base game.

If readers would like to try Rainbow Power Potz UltraNudge, they can click here to be taken to Yggdrasil’s official website.

Yggdrasil has announced an extension of its burgeoning YG Masters program, with studio partners now able to access all of the firm’s proprietary mechanics including Gigablox, MultiMax and Splitz.

The new proposition adds additional value to the program and will enable studios to develop new titles using Yggdrasil’s mechanics, designed to maximise player engagement, in their own game creation.

Stuart McCarthy, head of partner programs at Yggdrasil, said of the addition: “The competition in the slots market is immense. Using recognised and successful mechanical frameworks at the heart of a game is key to attracting players and turbo charging the game performance so this was a natural next step for us to take.

“Our proprietary mechanics have been a revelation this year, so much so that we have had to recalibrate what successful releases look like. Driven by these triumphs we are thrilled to now share this opportunity exclusively with our YG Masters partners.

“We are excited to see the first titles in this new wave of games launch in 2021, helping our studio partners grow and expand their offerings and delivering on our shared vision.”

Two existing YG Masters partners, DreamTech Gaming and Bang Bang Games have already signed up to Yggdrasil’s new offering and will develop games featuring the mechanics next year.

Frank McPolin, managing director at Bang Bang Games, stated: “Bang Bang Games could not be more excited about the opportunity to leverage the Yggdrasil mechanical frameworks.

“We are huge fans of the games Yggdrasil has already released with these frameworks, and big admirers of how they are going about the business of building them into recognisable brands.

“Our game design goblins are currently locked away in the Bang Bang dungeons and will be tirelessly flogged until they emerge with something amazing. We look forward to bringing our own twist to these incredible mechanics.”

Gigablox, which featured in Lucky Neko and Hades, is all about gigantic symbols appearing on the reels leading to massive wins when stacked. Splitz, incorporated into Temple Stacks, Neon Rush and Syncronite, splits mystery symbols on the reels for more ways, extra scatters, longer lines or bigger clusters. MultiMax made its debut in Multifly! and sees multipliers accumulate on the reels for cascading wins.

Halvor Dahl, business manager at DreamTech Gaming, added: “We’re thrilled to further extend our partnership with Yggdrasil and to utilise their highly successful mechanics in upcoming releases. With access to Yggdrasil Gaming’s exciting mechanical framework,

“DreamTech Gaming will be able to further build on our already highly successful partnership and offer new and exciting game concepts combined with our state-of-the-art graphics and design.”

Development studio Bang Bang Games has become the latest entity to join Yggdrasil’s YG Masters programme, eyeing an acceleration of its business strategy and global market goals.

The YG Masters programme enables independent studios to design, develop and distribute content using Yggdrasil’s technology and global distribution network.

Bang Bang Games will gain access to GATI, Yggdrasil’s preconfigured, regulation-ready development toolkit, which enables studios and game developers to use a standardised technology solution to design and distribute games anywhere in the world.

This means YG Masters partners can source, build, and distribute content and accelerate global reach, finding new ways to increase revenues, all using one standardised interface.

GATI is the enabler of the Yggdrasil Decentralised Aggregation Network. All Yggdrasil partners integrated to GATI will be able to cross-sell their games to any global Yggdrasil franchisee.

Stuart McCarthy, head of partner strategy and sourcing at Yggdrasil, explained: “We are thrilled to welcome Bang Bang Games to the YG Masters family. We have been keeping an eye on Bang Bang for some time now and have been impressed with the team and the game mechanics they are developing.

“It’s going to be very exciting to see the Bang Bang team carve their place in the industry using our unique GATI technology as a go-to market, and business strategy enabler.”

Bang Bang Games, founded earlier this year, aims to “produce games with mechanics that are easy to understand but hard to put down”. By joining the YG Masters programme, Bang Bang will gain Yggdrasil provisions of support around compliance, distribution, and commercialisation.

Frank McPolin, managing director of Bang Bang Games, commented: “Yggdrasil is at the forefront of innovation, and we are very excited to enter into this partnership which will allow us to accelerate our global portfolio reach using Yggdrasil’s standardised GATI technology as key enabler.

“We have been big fans of Yggdrasil for many years, and knowing that prominent, high calibre studios are already part of the YG Masters programme, puts us in great company. We are confident we can bring something different to the Yggdrasil distribution network and can’t wait to start showing the world what we’re made of!”
