As a number of new igaming titles grace the CasinoBeats inbox, sit back and get to grips with a select few new slot games in one handy bite-size chunk.

Shamrock Treasures – FunFair Technologies

Blockchain platform and games developer FunFair Technologies has launched its latest slot, with the 3×3 offering showcasing a classic Irish theme.

Bettors on the hunt for a four-leaf clover discover the slot’s range of symbols, ranging from pots of gold to Leprechaun pipes, in the game that is distributed via EveryMatrix.

Landing three shamrock scatter symbols on the reels triggers a multi-level wheel bonus, which generates increasingly attractive prizes after three successive spins, offering potential wins of over x6000.

“We are delighted to launch Shamrock Treasures, an all-Irish adventure following the likeable Fergus O’Fun on a quest to find the gold at the end of the rainbow within a simple yet engaging 3×3 grid.

“With an immersive set of symbols appearing alongside our exhilarating bonus round, it’s a no-nonsense slot that fun-loving players won’t want to miss.” – Lloyd Purser, COO at FunFair Technologies.

Mayan Rush – Stakelogic

Stakelogic promises players a mystical adventure in its latest realese, where they must smash away ancient blocks and charge magic totems in order to unlock the most valuable treasures hidden deep within a Mayan temple.

Mayan Rush is a 5×5 reel, 3,125 payline video slot, whose base game sees each consecutive win remove ancient blocks from the reels, which in turn allows for more wins from that spin. When all blocks have been removed, the game enters Rush Mode.

In Rush Mode, any winning symbols are assigned to either the multiplier totem or the life totem, based on their colour. The totems start at a x2 multiplier and one life respectively.

Collecting five symbols of either warm or cold increases the respective totem value. A win adds all winning symbols to the total while a losing spin deducts one life. Re-spins are awarded until no lives remain.

Mayan Rush also comes hooked up to Stakelogic’s ‘Super Stake’ feature which effectively allows players to double their bet. It is triggered on a random losing spin and awards three re-spins. When the feature starts, a coin symbol lands in the middle of the centre reel; any additional coin symbols that land remove any block symbols above or below the coin symbol.

If all blocker symbols are removed, then all coin symbol values are multiplied by x2. If 25 coin symbols are in view then coin symbol values are multiplied x5. If one or more coin symbols land on the reels after a re-spin, the number of re-spins resets to three.

“Mayan Rush takes the classic adventure themed slot and gives it the Stakelogic touch by combining stunning visuals, authentic sound and the thrilling gameplay we have built our reputation on.

“Players find themselves at the heart of a Mayan quest for treasure and as they smash away the ancient blocks the big win potential really builds. This is a great addition to our growing portfolio of titles and one I believe will be a big hit with players as they seek out their own ancient treasure.” – Stephan van den Oetelaar, CEO of Stakelogic.

Alien K.O. – Green Jade Games

The latest addition Green Jade Games’ ‘Knock Out’ series puts players at the controls of an alien spaceship, which has just touched down on an unsuspecting farm in the deep south of America.

The spaceship is hooked up to Green Jade’s Knock Out engine, which allows players to knock symbols out of the reels in order to create a cascade affect.

In Alien K.O. players have a K.O. meter that sits at the right-hand side of the game window and displays how many charges they currently have, with a maximum cap of 10 charges.

Each charge allows for a single symbol knockout. Charges are earned by base game spins at the rate of five spins per charge.

A player’s K.O. charge amount is persistent to player session ID. So, if a player signs out and signs back in, they should start with the same amount of K.O. charges as when they last left the game.

The idea is to K.O. symbols to line up three loot box symbols horizontally to trigger the game’s bonus features, which include free spins, instant cash or a combination of the two.

The more loot boxes the player can align, the greater the prize they receive. Whether the prize is instant cash or free spins is determined at random.

If free spins are triggered, players can also take advantage of sticky wilds that appear while the bonus is active. If they land, they will remain in position for the duration of the bonus.

“Our K.O series is proving to be incredibly popular with players as it combines elements of skill with RNG gameplay.

“The Alien theme has been incredibly well executed by our design team, and provides an engaging and entertaining game that players can return to time and again.

“These games really are unique and allow operators to acquire and retain players at scale, while also standing our from their rivals.” – Mark Taffler, chief commercial officer at Green Jade Games.

Frost Queen Jackpots – Yggdrasil

Players are welcomed into the frozen palace of the Frost Queen in search of hidden treasures scattered throughout the castle, in Yggdrasil’s latest igaming release.

Frost Queen Jackpots sees explorers tasked with collecting matching keys. If they find all five keys in the same-coloured set they are awarded with 10 free spins for a chance to win five different progressive jackpots. Each jackpot is colour-coded and players can win more than one jackpot in the free spins mode.

If players land three magic mirror scatter symbols in the base game, they are transported to either the jackpot free spins or treasure chest bonus game.

The treasure chest bonus game is an interactive mode where players select one of three chests that reside in the throne room. If a successful choice is made, they can collect a prize, a key for their collection or advance to the next level. Players can continue in this mode infinitely, until a wrong selection triggers an avalanche, removing them from the throne room.

Frost Queen Jackpots also rewards valiant explorers in their quest, with two mirror scatters triggering the pick and click game, where players can select one of five chests, which may contain keys, free spins or bonus games.

“Frost Queen Jackpots transports players to an icy castle in the bitter midwinter with the chance to escape with massive jackpots. Despite the cold theme, the audiovisual presentation gives a fuzzy warm feeling for the cold winter days.

“Yggdrasil’s multi-feature jackpot games have been player favourites for a half decade and Frost Queen Jackpots follows in line with simple rules, big variety of features and frequent jackpot chances.” – Jonas Strandman, senior games strategist at Yggdrasil.

FunFair Games is to officially close down this week after it was confirmed that parent company, FunFair Technologies, has pulled its funding of the games supplier.

In a social media post, Mark McGinley confirmed that the decision had been made “due to challenging conditions in a challenging market”.

The company launched FunFair Games in early 2021, with the studio subsequently labelling itself as “bringing a new genre of multiplayer games to a new generation of gamblers”.

Furthermore, ahead of last month’s ICE London conference, FunFair Games also unveiled a revamped image with an aim of modernising the company’s brand identity.

This, it was said, formed “an important step in a bigger strategic push” amid much optimism of delivering a host of fresh concepts and content in what was often billed as a non-traditional gaming format.

In confirming the closure, McGinley wrote: “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Lloyd Purser & Jeremy Longley for the opportunity and to the wider FunFair Games team who we’re a pleasure and delight to work with and who worked tirelessly throughout to drive positive change.

“I’d also like to say a special thank you to business partners, operators and industry friends and colleagues who worked with us and supported us each step of the way.”

In the current economic situation, heavily disrupted by the ongoing COVID-19 health pandemic, the role of digital currency has become increasingly important.

This is specifically the case for the betting and gaming sectors, which has already shown an eagerness to embrace digital currency due to the speed and transparency it brings.

Rebecca Liggero, lead reporter of Ayre Media, posed the question of what operators can do in terms of communication when it comes to crypto, and how they can maximise its use as a method of currency for its players.

Speaking on the ‘Blockchain Payments as a Driver in Crisis’ panel during day four of the SBC Digital Summit, Lloyd Purser, COO of Funfair Technologies, emphasised his belief that although education is a major part of bringing new players to crypto, there are also many other factors involved.

He said: “Education is a major part of what we are trying to do but on top of that we also have to do significant improvements in our product, adding new features, adding new suppliers, there’s a marketing effort as well that has to go into it.

“It really is a bit of everything, there’s no magic silver bullet to move people onto the blockchain, we have to improve our product and on-boarding journey, we have built our own wallet, something we never would have done if we didn’t have to, but frankly we had to, in order to make the user experience good enough.”

“We have tried to make a simplified process out of what seems very complex and the wallet is a key part of that.”

Max Krupyshev, CEO of CryptoProcessing.com by CoinsPaid, argued against Purser’s case and revealed that he witnesses a lot of mistakes when new operators begin to integrate crypto payment methods.

“You try to keep the disruption low, which is against what Lloyd is saying. Creating blockchains in casinos is an amazing idea, it is disrupting the whole industry but the element of dedication is huge but you need to get the first step right,” he explained.

“You have a big brand, you have a user base so just help them to use this as an option and then see if you want to get more users.

“Education, in general, is very important. I want this panel to explain to our listeners what to get right if they want to enable cryptocurrency.

“I see a lot of mistakes when the operators start working with cryptocurrency, they misunderstand the flows. The key point which created a bad impression from the start was accepting cryptocurrency. You have to make sure your players don’t wait, they have to make sure that when the money is sent the player gets the money within seconds.

“Then you have to make sure that the exchange rate is fair, when a player deposits €100 into his account he needs to receive said €100. It should then fit into the existing flow, you don’t have to change your cashier completely for the crypto. Finally follow the big players who have been using crypto for years, these are the people who have got it right.”

Tom Bloor, sales manager at Cryptopay, echoed Krupyshev’s point and was keen to highlight the importance of keeping it simple: “The more you know about your customers and what they like, the better. This is the main job of an operator, if you don’t know your customer well you can’t retain them and then you can’t grow.

“If you know what your customer behaviour is and you know if they prefer convenience or transparency this should inform how you plug in and accept how you are going to work with cryptocurrency.”

Isabelle Delisle, head of payments at Pinnacle, expressed her belief that the biggest challenge surrounding cryptocurrency is its perception: “To get something to go mainstream you have to get the buy-in of the big players and the perception has to be there but if you talk to a bank about crypto, the first thing they think of it you’re doing something dodgy.

“One of the things that we have to do is to start talking about this as a legitimate product and really educate the people who are responsible for making the regulations and financial decisions and speak to banks to make them understand the product better.”

SBC’s Digital Summit has attracted an estimated 10,000 delegates from around the world to discuss some of the industry’s biggest topics, such as how the esports betting sector or has reacted to COVID-19.  If you wish to join the event then register here

The event will run from 27 April to 1 May 2020 featuring a variety of industry expert panels, virtual networking lounges and a virtual exhibition. Whilst also offering an on-demand feature if you miss or want to rewatch the panel sessions.

Former Entain Director Mark McGinley has been named as Chief Executive Officer of FunFair Games, in a move that will see COO Lloyd Purser pivot to focus upon the group’s venture capital business.

In the role, McGinley will be charged with scaling the entity further still, as well as enhancing its product roadmap in a bid to accelerate its games output and global distribution.

McGinley previously worked as Entain’s Director of Game Studios where he managed the company’s internal game production. He has also held senior roles at RNG Foundry, Casumo and Odobo.

McGinley said: “I’m proud to have been made the CEO of such an innovative and exciting company as FunFair Games, and I’m looking forward to helping the business expand and strengthen its foothold in the igaming industry.

“The multiplayer vertical has garnered a lot of attention lately, with many realising how prosperous this area can be, and FunFair Games aims to be at the forefront of this exciting space in the industry.”

As part of the announcement, Purser, will take a step back to focus on FunFair Technologies’ venture capital business, FunFair Ventures.

“Everyone at FunFair Games is thrilled to have Mark on board as his experience and contacts across the industry will be invaluable to the business,” Purser explained

“In our journey so far we’ve proved that the market is ripe for a new style of game. The next stage of that journey is to up the ante and make our games an absolute must have for operators looking to drive new revenue streams with a more diverse portfolio.

“Mark is exactly what we need to take FunFair Games to the next level and we’re extremely excited to have him as our new CEO.”

FunFair Technologies has launched the blockchain venture capital arm of its company entitled FunFair Ventures

A new programme to support early-stage blockchain projects, FunFair Ventures noted its aim is to “plug a gap” in the funding process for early stage projects across all blockchain verticals, including igaming.

“We’ve been looking to formalise our venture capital offering for a while and have seen that we can plug a gap to help early-stage startups to drive significant growth and value,” Lloyd Purser, COO of FunFair Ventures, explained.

“Blockchain is a really exciting place to be right now, and there’s more and more capital coming into the market, and we look forward to being part of its growth.”

The company stated that it plans to work with partners who require “more than just funding”, having developed, launched, operated and marketed decentralised applications and a top 100 ERC20 token.

With the recent focus on R&D in blockchain scaling tech, FunFair has built projects on various platforms, including Polygon, Solana, Optimism, xDAI and dfinity. FunFair Ventures will also offer commercial, marketing and corporate support to all its partners.

FunFair Technologies was founded in 2017 with a mission to develop decentralised applications for igaming. In early 2021 they launched FunFair Games, a multiplayer game studio that labelled itself as “bringing a new genre of multiplayer games to a new generation of gamblers”.

Moreover, the company embarked on its first investment in 2021 with the NFT marketing platform AwardPool, as the firm aims to add many more to their portfolio in 2022.

Operator game lobbies are changing with the addition of new and innovative content. From Megaways to XtraWays, developers are creating mechanics, features and formats designed to engage the next generation of player and deliver new and exciting experiences to existing customers.

At the cutting edge of this push are skill-based arcade games, which combine real-money wagering with gameplay more akin to mobile and video games. They are proving to be hugely popular with a range of player demographics, taking session times and game revenues to new highs.

In this roundtable, Ben McDonagh, CEO of Green Jade Games, Shalva Bukia, product director at Spribe, and Lloyd Purser, COO of FunFair, take a closer look at skill-based arcade games, the demographics they appeal to and how operators can leverage the full potential they have to offer.

CasinoBeats: What are arcade games in the context of online casino?

LP: Simply put, arcade games are games that combine entertainment value with real money prizes. They provide a different experience to traditional slots as they resemble games you would have played at an arcade, yet online and for real money winnings. They combine skill and decision making with betting, creating a more engaging gaming experience for the player.

“…the main difference in genres is the vast array of types in arcade compared to slots”

Ben McDonagh, CEO of Green Jade Games.

BM: Arcade games are an extension of gambling entertainment, not a replacement of the existing game options. They fulfil a different need whilst remaining true as a gambling game, with the same volatility, prize range and hit frequency that can be experienced in slots, but with a completely different interactivity and reward sensation.

SB: Right now, we are seeing the emergence and growing popularity of new games that are different from the traditional casino approach; they have more in common with casual games than with igaming products.

They are easy to spot as they often have more simplistic UI and interactive gameplay. Instead of pressing the button and waiting for the result, with arcade games the player is more engaged and in some cases their actions determine the outcome of the game.

CB: What are the similarities and differences between arcade games and slots?

BM: Most slots contain the same ingredients in that they have reels, symbols and win lines. They vary in design by configuring reel sets onto honey-comb structures, or clustering symbols and combining that with cascade functions, but conceptually they all operate in a similar way.

Arcade games can be anything from the shove ha’penny machines played on British sea-side piers to more modern ‘fishing games’ popularised in parlours in Asia. Therefore, the main difference in genres is the vast array of types in arcade compared to slots.

“Arcade games are a good entry point for new players”

Shalva Bukia, product director, at Spribe.

Both game types return results generated by a RNG and generate revenue for the house by having a margin. Bet frequency, stake size, prize potential etc are all the same, though some arcade games allow for skill being a factor which you cannot find in other slots.

SB: Let me explain by way of example. In increasingly popular ‘crash curve games’ like Aviator, the player makes a decision when to cash out their winnings. This makes the player an active participant of a game and completely changes their experience when compared to slots.

LP: I can add to that. In our debut release, ‘AstroBoomers: To The Moon,’ players have to choose how many bets to place, differing amounts, and, importantly, make real time decisions as to when their astronaut should eject from the rocket with their winnings.

This style is entirely different from a passive experience such as slots. This fundamental difference isn’t just a feature of the games themselves but changes how players interact, experience, and enjoy them.

CB: What player demographics do they mostly appeal to?

SB: Millennials and gen-Z are the biggest demographic, because these games are similar to ones they played whilst growing up. Arcade games are a good entry point for new players that are not yet experienced in the online casino world. On the other hand, they work equally well for experienced players because of innovative game mechanics and experience.

“This fundamental difference isn’t just a feature of the games themselves but changes how players interact, experience, and enjoy”

Lloyd Purser, COO of FunFair.

LP: They tend to be straightforward to pick up, making them accessible for any player of gambling age. Although we’ve only been live for a few months, we’ve seen our games resonate particularly well with sportsbooks and cross selling sportsbook customers who wouldn’t normally play slots to the same degree.

CB: What upsides do arcade games present to operators?

BM: There are many including the first mover advantage, increased bet volumes (~50 per cent more bets per session on an arcade game), opportunity to grow their audience through acquisition of players that wouldn’t have previously been interested in sports betting or slots, increased revenues and more loyal players.

The upsides are phenomenal as arcade gambling is the introductory video gaming type that will meld esports players into a real money, regulated gambling experience, delivering a product type to an audience that enjoy entertainment gambling.

SB: If they want to attract new players to their online casino or engage millennials, arcades are the best way to do it. Also, ‘crash curve games’ like Aviator are a must have right now.

This is because they have a crazy engagement rate and players are coming back again and again to play games like these. This can drastically differentiate an operator from the competition and attract a new base of players.

As slot developers and providers continue to release a seemingly never ending volume of new content, the constant cycle of developing new ideas, designs, branding and gameplay continues to revolve.

However, it leaves a question as to whether these innovations are attracting new player demographics, and if so, what scope there is for the localisation of certain slot titles to cater for the differing tastes across global markets.

As part of a panel session entitled ‘Diversifying the slots audience through design’ – sponsored by BetConstruct – on the first day of the CasinoBeats Summit, panel experts delved into what is being done to attract new player demographics via design, branding and gameplay.

Moderator, Aideen Shortt, founder and CEO at Lilywhite, asked the panel’s thoughts on issues regarding slots – to which Helen Walton, CCO of Gluck Games, responded by explaining how difficult it is to persuade developers and suppliers when a new audience is needed whilst still making money and continued revenue growth.

She explained: “There’s always a problem in any industry, if you are becoming ever more reliant on a smaller group of people it leads you into the classic innovator’s dilemma where you’re doing incremental innovation based on that highly valuable audience – but that audience is shrinking. I honestly believe that that’s what we’re seeing in online slots, even though it’s being disguised by the fact that retail is moving online.”

Following on from Walton, Jan Urbanec, CEO of Endorphina, acknowledged that “there is still a lot of room in providing a standard and reliable service” as he put it down to quantity versus quality, noting that “players will decide it at the end of the day” adding “I’m sure that there is a very good niche right now that can go into mainstream”.

When asked about the expiration of the popularity of online slots, Lloyd Purser, COO at Funfair Tech, explained that after seeing the types of games being played in the market by non-slot-players, it came to light that the audience was younger and looking for a different experience. This led to the integration of multiplayer, community-driven video gaming experiences rather than the design of traditional slots.

He added: “If you think about the younger gambling audiences coming through, they’ve really been exposed to social collaborative, online video gaming experiences for their whole life.”

In contrast, Walton noted that there are players who prefer a simple traditional slot in which there’s no need to disrupt that by adding additional features, however, she also acknowledged that “that is a relatively small part of the population.”

She concluded by reverting back to Purser’s point in that in order to attract new slot players, it comes down to “what are the different games, what are the different features that appeal to that non-traditional not yet a slots player?”

Pressed on how the need for tradition is matched with the need for innovation, Urbanec explained that by doing the aforementioned of enticing new players with designs inspired by high-budget video games that can take years to develop “they are aiming from point X to point X plus million”.

He continued by explaining that while these games entail the player making active decisions, there are people out there with high-pressure jobs who prefer the simple traditional slot titles where the only decision they have to make is their bet size.

He concluded: “I’m 100 per cent sure that there is always room for people that want a random chance of winning without them putting in extra effort. It’s human nature.”

Purser added that with the simple slots, “the excitement and the entertainment is in the gamble itself”.

Following on, Walton noted that “One of the things that I think slots has been quite bad in the past is segmenting its player base. We’ve just seen people kind of go, okay, there’s low volatility, there’s medium volatility and there’s high volatility and then maybe there’s thematic segmentation as well, which is a rotten way to segment your customer base.

“We should be looking at behavioral segmentation much more than socioeconomic – whether it’s that someone wants to relax or whether somebody wants anticipation, somebody wants to compete, or somebody wants to be entertained. And certainly we have data that shows us that exploring some of those segments more fully could be extremely profitable.”

Moving onto the longer term plan of a game, Urbanec explained that “you need to know where you are right now and obviously you have to behave in a way that your current customers expect you to behave because some kind of predictability is a very good business plan. But at the end of the day, if we stay put where we are, we are going to die.”

He added: “It’s small things that we are focusing on right now because unfortunately the slots’ success locks you in some place and it’s very hard to make a big jump somewhere else.”

The panel also discussed working alongside operators to make new ventures work, finding the right point at which to do a launch and the challenges of selling niche and innovative games.

The CasinoBeats Summit 2021 conference and exhibition on 14-15 July takes place in an innovative integrated live and digital format. A select audience of senior executives will attend in person at the InterContinental in St Julian’s, Malta, while a global audience of industry professionals will participate in the event online.

As a number of new gaming titles grace the CasinoBeats inbox, sit back and get to grips with a select few new slot games as we take a look at Evoplay’s Bloody Brilliant, Empty the Bank by Pragmatic Play and the most recent collaboration between Yggdrasil and Reelplay with Gargoyle Infinity Reels.

Empty the Bank – Pragmatic Play

Pragmatic Play has planned the perfect heist in its latest crime-inspired slot title, Empty the Bank, a 5×4, 20-payline slot with a Hold & Win feature, a Respin feature and an optional Ante Bet.

The main attraction of Empty the Bank is the Respin feature, which provides players with the opportunity to enter the bank vault and win big prizes, along with some help from various special symbols that can modify gameplay and boost winning potential.

The burglar serves as the Wild symbol in the game and the safe door as the Bonus symbol, but when three scatter symbols appear on the reels the Respin feature is triggered and players are transferred to a bonus grid that is packed with rewards.

Special symbols that appear in the feature perform specific tasks, such as the Walkie Talkie that adds its value to all money symbols on the screen for all subsequent respins, or the Ladder symbol which can transform the bonus grid into a 7×7 layout.

“We are thrilled to announce the launch of our latest slot title – Empty the Bank – the crime-inspired thriller that draws motivation from the dramatised bank raids of the Swinging Sixties,” noted Yossi Barzely, chief business development officer at Pragmatic Play.

“As we continue to explore new ideas and push the boundaries of innovation in the industry, we are confident that Empty the Bank will resonate strongly with our customers.”

The 5×3 slot teleports players to a futuristic city overrun by criminals who are pursued by the game’s high-tech cyber cop. Players who capture three energy cells trigger a free spin mode where they are given the opportunity to enter hunter mode. Royal Dragon Infinity Reels – Yggdrasil and ReelPlay

Yggdrasil and ReelPlay have aligned to release Games Lab’s oriental themed Royal Dragon Infinity Reels, which becomes the latest game released via the former’s YG Masters program.

Set in a tranquil mountainous region where dragons soar free, the games promises a feature-packed slot which combines Infinity Reels with a symbol-eliminating free spins feature, which aims to increase the chances of more wins and a lucrative payout at the end of the bonus round. The random frenzy spins multiplies the Infinity Reels multiplier itself.

Each base spin begins with a 3×3 reel set, and with each winning spin an additional reel and multiplier is added providing for greater winning opportunities. There is no limit to how many reels can be added, and if players reach 12 or more, they are awarded a jackpot prize.

There is also the opportunity for players to gamble their feature wins, while in certain jurisdictions, players can buy the bonus feature and progress straight through to the free spins round.

“Working with Yggdrasil allows ReelPlay and ReelPlay’s partner studios such as Games Lab, the opportunity to distribute thoughtfully created slots games to a wide network of operator partners.

“Games Lab have done a great job with Royal Dragon Infinity Reels which has all the ingredients of a thrilling and profitable slot title which players will enjoy across the network.” – David Johnson, CEO at ReelPlay.

The 5×3, nine-payline slot sees players come face to face with the Sphinx, Colosseum, the Mexican El Castillo, the Great Wall of China, Moai and the Taj Mahal.

During the base game, the Sphinx is a wild symbol which substitutes for all the symbols except for the scatter. Moreover, the adventuress symbol is the scatter.

If the player lands three scatter symbols within the main game, it will trigger the free spins feature and award players with 15 spins, which also include variable multipliers. Additionally, the compass is a special symbol which only lands on the third reel.

THE conversation surrounding blockchain is growing across a wide variety of industries, with FunFair Technologies confident it can empower a whole new generation in the world of online casino.

Following a deal with Spike Games earlier in the year, the firm’s founder Rob Anderson stated “the potential of blockchain technology in the online gaming industry is enormous”.

In the aftermath of FunFair’s Fate of Thrones launch earlier in the week, CasinoBeats has been speaking to Jez San, founder and CEO at FunFair Technologies, regarding the multitude of blockchain benefits for online casino and what the future could hold for the relationship.

“Existing blockchain titles… are essentially not fit for market”

CasinoBeats: You state that Fate of Thrones “pushes the boundaries of what a casino game on the blockchain can offer,” how does it do this?

Jez San: “While there are existing blockchain titles out there, they are essentially not fit for market as they don’t provide the user experience that consumers have grown to expect from the industry. While they offer increased fairness and transparency, they sacrifice commercial level gameplay and we don’t see this as necessary.

“We’ve spent the past two years building our proprietary ‘Fate Channel’ technology which bridges the existing gap in the industry. This means we can build games such as Fate of Thrones, with the transparency and fairness that the blockchain offers while maintaining exceptional graphics, sound effects and speeds that players expect in the more mainstream slots sector.”

CB: Blockchain has become increasingly more commonplace in recent times, in general terms what potential does the technology have in the online gaming environment?

JS: “Currently, two thirds of UK gamblers do not trust operators, according to the latest UKGC research. This therefore allows huge opportunity for companies to increase their competitive advantage, by proving to their customers that their gambling services are inherently fair. Blockchain provides the assurance of a fair online gaming experience through the use of cryptography.

“Thanks to the nature of the public ledger, blockchain brings an added level of transparency to the processes that power gambling, for instance, proven random number generation. Smart contracts allow both the operator and player to produce half of the random number each, rather than solely the operators generating numbers. These are then immutable and open, meaning anyone can validate the fairness of the game at the end of a session.”

“The decentralised nature of blockchain technology could improve on current standards”

CB: How does/would the technology enhance a users playing experience? What benefits would entice completely new players?

JS: “The technology that FunFair uses enables players to have full control over their funds, held in a wallet controlled by private keys only available to the user. The player would only need to commit to the funds they specify each gambling session in a smart contract.

“Their funds are never at risk, as the player never has to deposit, and therefore the commonly criticised withdrawal restrictions and other issues such as dormant account processes are replaced by instant payouts into the players secure crypto wallets. This is an attractive advantage, to any player, regardless of knowledge and experience with cryptocurrency.

“Responsible gambling controls have been scrutinised for as long as memory serves. Again, the decentralised nature of blockchain technology could improve on current standards by requiring a player to commit to sign up and KYC processes just once, then proliferating this information on the blockchain across multiple operators.”

CB: Gaming and new technologies are quite often at the centre of fresh innovations, what does the future hold for the online casino/blockchain relationship?

JS: “Within the casino industry, it is evident that blockchain is the next big disruptor leading the way in resolving issues and providing major benefits for both the players and operators. Regulation will be key in ensuring that the wider adoption of the technology is properly integrated across territories.

“Once standards are agreed and cryptocurrencies become more commonplace in society, people will naturally gravitate towards crypto casinos as a source of leisure, cementing the casino/blockchain relationship.

Simply put, why would a player choose a traditional casino over a far more secure, fair and fast blockchain casino which can offer the same quality of content and user experience.”
