Future Anthem has strengthened its Amplifier AI toolset by launching its Audience Identifier tool in Blueprint Gaming’s range of jackpot slots.

Launched via Blueprint’s range of Jackpot King games, the solution will allow operators to engage with players through personalised real-time promotional jackpot messaging, aiming to generate curated audiences for jackpot titles.

The tool constantly monitors pot sizes, analysing points of player interest to then generate audiences of relevant players using recommendation algorithms.

Chris Conroy, Chief Data and Product Officer at Future Anthem, explained: “This is a perfect example of Anthem’s commitment to innovation and excellence in AI-driven marketing solutions that improve player experiences, building on the strong foundations of successfully working with Blueprint for over three years.”

Needing just four weeks to be implemented and deployed, the solution will trigger third-party messaging or CRM systems to send players communications in real-time, both on and off-site.

Audience Amplifier will aim to bolster player engagement with Blueprint Gaming’s series of specialised jackpot games, including slots such as Bankin’ More Bacon Jackpot King and Cash Strike Jackpot King, Fishin’ Frenzy Jackpot King and The Goonies Jackpot King.

While this signals the tools first activation in the online casino space, Audience Identifier has previously been integrated into sports betting offerings with operators such as William Hill, generating audiences based on betting behaviour and micro-events.

Thomas O’Halleran, Director of Operations at Blueprint Gaming, added: “Blueprint Gaming is driven to provide great player experiences. Our integration with this new audience innovation product provides an industry-leading approach to real-time player engagement.

“It will also leverage Blueprint’s Jackpot King portfolio and provide a personalised player utility to enhance the entertainment delivered by the gameplay.”

Buzz Bingo has deepened its partnership with Future Anthem by launching real-time personalisation across its operations, powered by Anthem’s flagship product Amplifier AI.

As a result of the collaboration, Buzz Bingo will tap into advanced personalisation by using Anthem’s deep artificial intelligence models that drive automation of the player experience.

David Swaine, Head of Product, Slots & Games at Buzz Bingo, said: “Real-time personalisation is a game-changing innovation that will materially improve the way we interact with our players and help improve retention.

“We are thrilled to be working alongside Future Anthem – true leaders in the field when it comes to leveraging data using technology and AI.”

Buzz Bingo’s integration includes an advanced game lobby recommendation system that personalises content suggestions for players in every category, whilst also able to differentiate between the multiple stages of the player lifecycle on a 1-to-1 basis.

The online bingo firm will also employ Anthem’s real-time decision models to accurately predict the likelihood of player exits, before triggering bonuses and recommending appropriate interactions to ensure players remain entertained with improved gaming experiences.

Chris Conroy, Chief Data Officer of Future Anthem, added: “Integrating Amplifier AI into Buzz Bingo’s day-to-day operations not only emphasises the importance of real-time personalisation but shows that if operators are to succeed and grow in a hyper-competitive market, they must embrace AI and its ever-growing capabilities.”

In the second part of our roundtable discussion, we carry on the conversation about responsible gambling as industry experts analyse the role that technology can play in early problem gambling detection.

CasinoBeats: Technology allows for early detection and messaging, do you think automated processes are enough to deter problem gambling at the source, or does this require a human touch?

Kimberley Broad, Chief Compliance Officer at Games Global (right): I think we have enough case history now to establish that whilst early detection and messaging can be effective, for some, this will not be enough and meaningful human contact can be the key differentiator in helping to keep players safe.

Where technology has a critical role to play however is by helping guide the right action to the right player at the right time. Suppliers can support operators with data to make decisions. This could be to ensure that a trained customer service operative can make a targeted human connection with a player in need, as opposed to focusing on a player with no indication of potentially problematic behaviour. This is essential and can make a real difference.

Niklas Hopfgartner, Data Scientist at OpenBet’s Neccton (left): Automated processes alone are not enough to deter problem gambling at the source. Our system also sends players customised messages, which are triggered by a certain type of behaviour. However, not all players read their messages, and if they do, they also don’t always follow recommendations.

There will always be a human component in addressing problem gambling. Sometimes it may be necessary for trained personnel to email or call a high-risk gambler and ask them to complete a self-assessment of their gambling behaviour, to check they can recall it. If all else fails, the operator may need to ban the player from the platform or a single betting product.

Tom Farrell, CMO at ClearStake: It requires a combination of both. We need to strike a balance, with computers doing the maths and automatically identifying indicators of problem behaviours, so people are free to do the human side of the job.

The worst use of a human being is looking through a bank statement with a calculator, doing maths to figure out what somebody’s disposable income is. A computer can do that in seconds. The best use of that person is being on the phone to somebody with unusual or concerning behaviour, to establish a human connection and decide if this person is simply someone of means who is enjoying their hobby, or somebody who is perhaps spiralling out of control.

That is a judgement only a human can make, and we should use the technology available to free up humans for making those judgements. Without wanting to sound like an advertisement, using a system like ours saves a lot of time, reduces human error and thus gives compliance teams more confidence. One of our clients has found ClearStake leads to a 60% reduction in the time it took staff to reach a decision on player financial health.

CasinoBeats: Looking ahead, what technologies do you believe will have the biggest impact on promoting and ensuring safer gambling practices in the years to come?

Ed Mitchell, Head of Data at Future Anthem (left): Positive play is the top priority for us right now. Future Anthem is heavily committed to this initiative because of its tremendous potential impact. For those who may not be acquainted with the concept, positive play shifts the approach to player protection.

Rather than simply reacting to risky behaviours, the aim is to proactively encourage players to engage in a consistently positive manner through gamification and positive reinforcement.

NH: In terms of technology, we are well-positioned compared to other industries. When it comes to curbing and treating addictions or disorders, we have accurate, cost-effective, and real-time player tracking data which can be used to identify problem gambling and provide effective interventions.

As an industry, we need to constantly evaluate the effectiveness of and develop various responsible gaming tools such as self-exclusion, limit setting, etc. to provide the most effective interventions and safeguards to curb problem gambling.

OpenBet and Neccton are working on this and constantly publishing scientific studies on these very issues. We believe that it is only through academic research that we can advance player protection on a global scale.

TF (Right): Artificial intelligence is going to get better at identifying troubling behaviour. AI will be able to spot a player who is behaving in a way that it has observed before, that it is programmed to identify as unsafe and that needs to be shut down.

Meanwhile, Open Banking technology, such as ClearStake, is going to give operators almost total confidence that the people who are betting with them are doing so within their means. It makes it incredibly easy to do a job that right now operators (and customers hate) – sharing financial data and reaching decisions around affordability and money laundering.

KB: Whilst the rest of the world is getting to grips with large language model AI such as Chat GPT and Claude 2, our industry has seen predictive behaviour modelling AI play a role in helping understand player behaviour for a little while now.

As these large data models understand more about what is and what isn’t problematic behaviour and as more becomes known about markers of home from studies etc, then the accuracy and efficiency of these models and products improve.

Future Anthem has launched its Amplifier AI product with Betsson Group to give the operator’s players a “more personalised and sustainable experience”.

This is intended to help Betsson offer each player an experience that is personalised, as well as provide additional risk monitoring of every casino session for responsible gaming purposes.

“We are thrilled to embark on this transformative journey with Future Anthem. Our mission is to provide the ultimate gaming experience for our players, and this partnership allows us to do just that,” commented Jan Chircop, Head of Gaming Projects at Betsson.

“By harnessing the power of AI, we are confident that our players will enjoy more engaging and sustainable gaming experiences as we transition to personalised experiences.”

Betsson will utilise Future Anthem’s Amplifier AI to “improve its ability to respond to each player’s needs in a highly personalised one-to-one manner with its quick-to-deploy modules during critical moments”, reacting quickly to key touchpoints in a player’s journey.

Eduards Jakubovs, Head of Responsible Gaming at Betsson, noted: “Online casino betting is known to pose a higher risk in comparison with other products, hence it was a very natural decision to enhance customer protection.

“Future Anthem’s real-time personalised risk scoring engine will work in parallel with our own in-house Prediction Model to ensure the highest level of protection for our players.”

The operator will gradually roll out the solution across its brands in several jurisdictions over the next few months.

Leigh Nissim, Founder and CEO of Future Anthem, added: “We really enjoy working with progressive clients and teams as they bring out the best in our AI technologies.

“The Betsson team has a clear vision around personalisation to improve player experiences and we’re delighted that our all-encompassing personalisation product, Amplifier AI, is becoming an integral part of their journey.”

Last month, Betsson published its Q3 financials, declaring record numbers as well as sequential growth in revenue and earnings attributed to key gains in several markets.

As we mark Safer Gambling Week in the UK, we sat down with four industry experts to discuss the importance of responsible gambling practices and the role that technology plays in protecting players.

In the first of a two-part roundtable discussion, we ask whether the industry can do more to protect players from gambling-related harm.

CasinoBeats: Do you think the industry has done enough to ensure safer gambling practices are adhered to, or has it adopted a one-size-fits-all approach over the last few years?

Tom Farrell, CMO at ClearStake (left): Yes and no! I think there have been some good initiatives from within the industry, including applying spending limits to younger players, and improvements in the way risky behaviours are identified. At the same time, it would be fair to say that on the current big issue of financial vulnerability there has been a fair amount of heel dragging.

Ironically, the rather grudging way these checks are performed today (making it as hard as possible for all concerned, presumably to prove a point) actively damages the top line for most operators. If I wish for one thing, it is a positive engagement with the need to conduct affordability checks – and a commitment to make them as easy as possible for the customer.

Niklas Hopfgartner, Data Scientist at OpenBet’s Neccton: In Europe, gambling is quite heavily regulated which leads to high standards of safer gambling practices. For example, in Germany, a global deposit limit of €1,000 per month has been introduced for all players across all licensed operators and they must report how much each of their players has deposited.

A centralised system allows for a single customer view, where we observe a player’s gaming behaviour and can also ensure that self-exclusions are in place across all operators. However, the €1,000 limit is a one-size-fits-all approach, as you could argue that there are many players for whom losing even €300 a month is too much.

As a researcher, I believe we can always improve safer gambling practices, especially when it comes to designing regulations to protect all players.

Kimberley Broad, Chief Compliance Officer at Games Global (right): All sectors mature as industry stakeholders evolve and improve at what they do, and gambling is no different. As actors in the industry gain a greater understanding around safer gambling, more conversations take place around how to safeguard players, and more regulatory authorities engage constructively with operators – we all grow and learn. This is a combined effort and one we all have a role to play in.

Has the industry adopted a one-size fits-all approach historically? I guess that really depends upon your perspective. Looking at the different regulatory requirements across numerous jurisdictions which are relevant to a global business like ours, perhaps not, but I appreciate the sentiment behind the question. I do absolutely believe, for the most part, that the vast majority of actors were taking measures which they believed would be effective in keeping players safe.

It is important that the industry continues these discussions, picking up the stones and having a look underneath, then modify how and what it does to keep players safe by adapting, evolving and changing. One thing that has been incredibly welcome over the past few years is the effort that has gone into making it safe to have conversations relating to gambling which may be getting out of control. This has made it okay to admit problematic behaviour and ask for help. The measures taken by operators and regulators to put controls in place which are designed to give power to players to set parameters for their own play are essential and are demonstrably effective – if they weren’t then adoption levels would illustrate this. But we must continue our efforts to make sure that we all talk, share, support, learn and take action.

Ed Mitchell, Head of Data at Future Anthem (Left): The gambling industry has been moving in the right direction in recent years, aiming for a comprehensive approach to player protection. However, there is a clear opportunity to accelerate the pace of improvements given the advancements in technology that now enable player safeguarding.

Although a handful of operators have implemented real-time responsible gambling models, the vast majority have not yet adopted them. Integrating these models with personalised player interventions can significantly reduce the risk of player harm.

CasinoBeats: What technologies has your own company utilised to ensure players are kept safe when betting and gaming online?

KB (left): As a company, we look to engage positively and constructively in the markets where we are present. As a games supplier, this question has a different context than that of an operator dealing directly with the player as we are one step removed and do not have the same holistic view.

We are one piece of the jigsaw, so we look to support our partners by making sure that they have access to the information quickly, and easily, which is going to aid them in making decisions about their customers’ behaviour. Understanding user behaviour is critical in helping them stay safe and empowers operators to make interactions where they feel the player may be at risk.

EM: Future Anthem’s state-of-the-art technology allows real-time player protection, including binge-play detection. We have integrated this with personalised messages that give operators in-depth data on which behaviours have been flagged as risky. It also allows them to measure the impact interventions have on players. To detect risks we utilise advanced machine learning models that have been created by analysing millions of player sessions on a wide variety of gambling products.

NH (right):  We are a gambling compliance services provider for responsible gaming, anti-money laundering, fraud, and advanced analytical CRM, so our customers are gambling operators, not players.

In terms of player protection, we follow a three-step closed loop process:

  1. We constantly publish academic studies on how we can utilise player-tracking and self-reported data to improve player protection.
  2. Based on our own academic research (and others), we improve our responsible gaming solution so that it aligns with our latest findings.
  3. We offer our scientifically sound responsible gaming solution to gambling operators, so that they can easily integrate it into their platform and provide it to their players.

Early identification of potential problematic gambling behaviour plays an important role. We use AI and machine learning algorithms to identify behavioural patterns which are associated with problem gambling, then carefully integrate these behavioural patterns into our risk scoring algorithm so that it remains transparent, yet sophisticated.

Future Anthem has hit a landmark achievement after announcing it has analysed more than one billion gaming sessions since its inception four years ago.

The artificial intelligence and machine learning platform has worked through over 100 million hours of gaming session data, which have featured more than 89 billion real-money casino spins.

The achievement is part of Future Anthem’s goal of enabling real-time personalisation across the player journey through the training of their proprietary machine learning models for the all-in-one product Amplifier AI.

Chris Conroy, Chief Data Officer of Future Anthem, commented: “Future Anthem continues to grow, develop and reach new heights with our AI products, backed by our incredibly talented team of data scientists, engineers, developers and product managers.

“Operators and suppliers are keenly aware of the importance of integrating the latest technologies into their product offering, and real-time personalisation is at the forefront of these advancements.

“Reaching one billion game sessions is a testament to the hard work of everyone at the company.”

Future Anthem strives to produce a personalised data-first approach to acquisition, retention and player sustainability, through the utilisation of AI and machine learning.

The platform is powered by Microsoft Azure and has processed over 200 billion player transactions and has collected metadata from over 20,000 casino games.

Amplifier AI currently provides real-time personalisation for operators such as STS, Betsson, Big Time Gaming, Blueprint Gaming and Eyecon.

Back in May, EveryMatrix began a partnership with Future Anthem to utilise Amplifier AI to improve the former’s player retention, satisfaction and revenues on the CasinoEngine igaming integration and productivity platform.

The necessity of building and maintaining a strong network is a familiar construct among numerous industries, and is certainly one that is not lost in the gaming community.

However, among the multitude of strategies and expert tutorials on how best to achieve such a goal, is the question of: how much do you know about your network? With this in mind, CasinoBeats is aiming to take a look under the hood, if you will, and has tasked the 100 Club to help out.

The latest person to jump into the Pathways hotseat was Leigh Nissim, CEO of Future Anthem, who took us back to his Marks & Spencer days, lauding the people that he’s met throughout his time in the sector and noting his request to our members to keep innovating.

CasinoBeats: Could you begin by talking us through any past experiences that have been gained outside of the gambling industry? Could your career have taken any different paths?

Leigh Nissim: One of my early influences was I lived in France for a year, twice, and I also lived in Geneva. Geneva, so I could have ended up in France through my education and I started working in Paris, in Marks and Spencers actually. I’d always been stacking shelves in Marks and Spencers in my early career.

I actually got offered a job on a graduate training programme, much to the ax to my parents. I turned it down because I just didn’t want to work in retail and I’d always worked in retail. My dad owned ladies fashion shops in very unfashionable areas of London in the not so nice parts, or then not so nice parts, which are very nice parts now.

After university, my first role was in the finance and insurance market. I ended up at Deloittes in the Treasury area where you manage interesting things like currency and interest rate risk.

But I found it very technically complex and I got the job in banking, so I think I could have ended up in banking. But also to turn that down really to join the Internet. So I was at university, the guy had had a business start up, so I was an early Internet pioneer in 99.

And so, yeah, I suppose I could reach out, could have a bank, he could have been in the past and ended up in .com in 1999 and since then found my real place in technology and digital journeys. So very happy I landed like that.

CasinoBeats: What was it that eventually led you into this industry?

Was very interesting actually, because like I say, I was digital. So I’ve been in the digital area since 99. In 2005, I got introduced to a gentleman called Gary Shaw, who had a white label business. At the time I knew very little about gambling and my nearest experience is my grandfather used to gamble a lot on the horses.

Gary was setting up something that was a white label business watching Gala, Yahoo and a bingo and we got along very well so I came into the business being a digital guy coming into gambling. Garry gave me some really good advice – just play lots of poker and familiarise with the product!

I was playing about 15-20 hours of poker a week early doors and I got very familiar with the products and that was my pathway in the industry.

CasinoBeats: How would you assess your progress through the industry to date? Are there any interesting anecdotes that would interest our readers, or any standout experiences that may not have been possible without the current, or a past, role?

I think, and I say this to my kids, the key thing was people. So I’ve met just some brilliant people all the way through my 18 years. I’ve had to work with them or they’ve been my customers and I must say the vast majority, I’d be happy to go out for a beer with them on a social night as much as I would in a work capacity.

Everyone’s kind of on a mindset, and there’s quite a lot of similarity, in terms of outlook and I’ve always enjoyed that. So it is really a privilege to lead some of the industry’s biggest and best, like in IGT digital business and SG’s digital business. I’ve always supplied the industry.

As a B2B, you get the chance to work with all businesses where there’s all sorts of different people. It’s very sociable like that. I’ve had the opportunity, fortunately, to work with a lot of people and to have them as my customers as well.

I think people would be one. I think the next thing that I find really curious and interesting is its dynamism. It changes so much and a lot of people criticise it and says it’s not innovative, which I really challenge, because it has had to reinvent itself so many different times.

CasinoBeats: What would you say have been the major changes during your time working in the industry? Both for the better and worse.

I remember a time when you logged into PokerStars.com and it said this domain has been seized by the FBI. For PokerStars to recover from that and have become a global company and still be sold successfully it’s mind blowing! It wouldn’t happen in any other industry.

Also I remember when evolution was just starting in 2007 when the guys there were just kind of touting around this new technology. And now look at evolution. One of the industry’s leaders created a whole new category from almost nothing.

I can honestly point to the up to 10 monumental moments where either companies or industry have had to totally transform themselves in regulations or technologies and they have. Market shares may have been rewritten to newer entries or different leaders or parties but it absolutely has rewritten itself a number of times.

Again, I think it is one of the reasons I’ve stated, as well as the people, this ability to constantly change and innovate relatively quickly because these are really complex financial systems.

CasinoBeats: If you could ask the 100 Club any questions, or task them with tackling any issue, what would that be?

I’m going to frame it in terms of a request. We’re bringing AI to the industry, and much of this is about innovation, new ways of doing things. This is one area where I think we could all benefit from a little bit more speed because when you work with clients, they have regulatory changes that deal with new market launches or they’re going through substantial change through restructuring or acquisitions.

It’s quite a congested calendar you’re going into. My request is to make sure all of you that you need enough through on your roadmaps for innovation because those that do will be the ones that rewrite market share as evidenced by Evolution or LeoVegas.

So really, make sure you leave room for innovation is my request.

With comings and goings commonplace across the industry, Bacta, Digital and Virgin Hotels Las Vegas are among those to have bolstered their teams with key hires.

FanDuel

FanDuel has confirmed the appointment of Alison Kutler as Vice President of Sustainability and Responsible Gaming.

In the role, she will lead FanDuel’s responsible gambling strategy and sustainability efforts as the group aims to become a leader in consumer protection for the US sportsbook industry.

In addition, Kutler will have influence over an array of teams within the FanDuel business, including responsible gaming policy and regulatory affairs, RG training and product development, RG operations and the advocacy teams.

“We are very fortunate to have a professional of Alison’s calibre join our team in this critical role at such an important time for our company and the industry,” said Christian Genetski, President, FanDuel.

“Alison has had a distinguished career including 25 years’ experience in high-level government and private sector roles leading business, regulatory, policy and public affairs strategies.”

Bacta

Bacta has announced that a total of 45 members have been elected to take-up positions in the group’s newly announced streamlined structure.

This has seen John Bollom be voted National President, while Joseph Cullis, Owner of Scottish operating company Windmill Leisure, has been named Vice-President – both under two-year terms.

Described as a “fresh chapter” in the history of the UK amusements trade association, Nick Harding, Greg Wood and James Miller are the three past presidents to have been voted onto a new 11-person national council.

“The purpose of the reorganisation was to create a structure which is more aligned to the dynamic nature of the leisure entertainment business that we are all involved in as well as a structure which would appeal to a broader constituency of Bacta members,” Bollom commented.

“Ours is an industry packed with talent and energy and this structure enables Bacta to draw on those talents and attributes, remove the bureaucracy which slows the decision making process down and instead get on representing the business interests of our members with gusto, focus and creativity.”

Atkinson is praised as having played a leading role in the success of several high-profile hotels across the US, including Luxor Hotel & Casino, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, and Gramercy Park Hotel, and in a corporate capacity at MGM Resorts International, where he led their hospitality centre of excellence.

“It was important to our board to find a leader that possessed not only the knowledge and experience required to drive results at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, but also the reputation and personality needed to lead and inspire the amazing team that exists on property,” read a statement from the board of JC Hospitality.

“Cliff is that type of leader, and we’re excited to support him as he leads the charge to realize the tremendous potential of Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.”

EveryMatrix has agreed to a platform partnership with Future Anthem for the latter’s real-time personalisation product Amplifier AI.

Amplifier AI helps to personalise the player experience by combining “anonymised transactional data with machine learning to enable real-time personalisation”.

Future Anthem’s product will be used by EveryMatrix in the CasinoEngine igaming integration and productivity platform alongside its promotional and player management capabilities.

“Platform features play a critical role in EveryMatrix helping its operator customers grow, so it’s important that they integrate the latest technologies to facilitate improvements and innovation,” commented Leigh Nissim, CEO of Future Anthem.

“From the moment I first met the EveryMatrix team and had exposure to the full potential of their platform, it was clear they would be a great partner to leverage the power of Amplifier AI, in real time – I’m confident that great things will come from this collaboration.”

Amplifier AI’s real-time personalisation is expected to help EveryMatrix improve its player retention, satisfaction and revenues via “AI-driven personalised player journeys, game recommendations, and marketing engagement offers”.

“This partnership represents an important step for the EveryMatrix platform as we harness the power of AI and invest in real-time technologies to provide our clients and their players with hyper-relevant and automated actions,” added Stian Enger Pettersen, CEO of EveryMatrix Casino

“Future Anthem is a leader in real-time personalisation with broad capabilities that are fast to integrate – they were a natural choice for us as we continue our efforts to deliver the best player experience possible.”

Earlier this week, EveryMatrix received approval from the Malta Gaming Authority for its JackpotEngine gamification solution.
